Volunteer Registration

The Indian River Lagoon Science Festival is seeking science-enthusiasts willing to donate their time and talents!

Important information:

  • All volunteer opportunities will take place on Friday night October 13, 2017 and Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Park/River Walk Center in Fort Pierce.
  • The minimum age for volunteers is 16. The Smithsonian Marine Station will provide minor consent forms for any volunteers under age 18.
  • The Festival is outdoors, so please be prepared for variable weather conditions.

All Festival volunteers will:

  • Receive a Festival t-shirt
  • Complete a volunteer application with the Smithsonian Marine Station.

Night-Before set-up (3:00pm-6:00pm, Fri, 10/13):
Assist Festival staff with hanging up booth signs. Set up and organize staging room for Festival Day.
Exhibitor check-in (6:30am-10:00am):
Greet exhibitors and tell them their booth location.
Exhibitor loading (6:30am-10:00am):
Assist exhibitors with loading booth materials into a motorized golf cart, drive exhibitors to their booth location and assist with unloading materials.
Festival set-up (6:30am to 10:00am):
Assist Festival staff with distributing and setting up materials on the Festival grounds including banners, flags and barricades. Distribute booth signs and linens to exhibitor tents.
Information/Festival t-shirt/First Aid tent (9:00am-3:30pm):
Sit at information tent and answer visitor questions about the Festival. Provide basic first aid supplies if needed. Take in donation money for Festival t-shirts. Distribute raffle tickets to children and families.
Booth assistant (9:00am-3:00pm):
Assist exhibitors with public interaction and facilitating activities at booths. Exhibitors will provide any necessary training regarding the booth activities.
Stage assistant (9:30am-3:00pm):
Greet presenters performing on the Festival main stage and assist when needed. Volunteers may also assist with stage raffles. Alert Festival staff of any issues or needs that arise. Monitor the food area to make sure it's staying clean and problem free.
Festival break down (2:30pm-5:30pm):
Assist Festival staff with breaking down and collecting materials on the Festival grounds including banners, flags and barricades. Festival break down volunteers may also assist exhibitors with transporting booth materials to their vehicles, collecting exhibitor feedback forms, or other duties as needed.
The IRL Science Festival is seeking LEAD VOLUNTEERS (age 18+) to assist Festival staff with coordinating volunteer stations. Lead Volunteers will 1) attend a brief training session the week of the Festival, 2) serve as the point person for their assigned station, and 3) check-in and orient volunteers on the Festival day. In addition to receiving a Festival t-shirt, Lead Volunteers will also receive a special thank-you goodie bag! Please complete the below information and Festival staff will contact you shortly.
